Maynard Davies at Tanners

Booksellers report of the Wine Tasting Evening for Merlin Unwin Books at Tanners,
Wyle Cop Cellars in celebration of
Secrets of a Bacon Curer by Maynard Davies

Ros Ephraim was unable to attend tonight’s author event - so she dispatched Hilary and Emski (cultural attachés of Burway Books, Church Stretton) to represent her. Smiling, enthusiastic and with a promise of a free wine tasting we made our way to Tanners in Shrewsbury for a sup or two of a fine libation. It is widely known that books and wine make a superb combination so we hardly needed much persuading!

Merlin Unwin have published the book Maynard –Secrets of a Bacon Curer – the follow up to Maynard’s earlier book Adventures of a Bacon Curer.

As one reader put it…“ The story of one man's efforts to make his way in the world, overcoming his chronic dyslexia on the way had me riveted from the start. If you like country tales buy this book. Do not expect perfect prose, but there is emotion aplenty, a few good, literally industrial scale piggy recipes, and a lot of humour - I even had a lump in my throat at the end and was left wanting more. Another excellent book from the Merlin Unwin publishing stable. “

And then the tasting began…Regnie, Chateau Chassantour, M Perroud 2005 -served with a
delicious pate…
Then scrumptious sausages in honey and mustard were washed down with Mas du Soleilla
les Chailles , La Clape 2005..

…The Tawny Port was Hilary’s favourite…- divine Devils on Horseback ooohhh and some heavenly Welsh smoked cheese… more Sausages & wine and more wine and more wine
Please email me for exact wine details…if you’re interested…

And if that wasn’t enough…much supping and more laughter Oh yes and I ought to mention …

The book is brilliant…. This author has had such an effect on those involved in the publishing side of things it’s hard not to feel the infection.

And so the crowd dispersed… travelling back to yonder pastures. Thankfully after so much wine we had a chauffeur to return us to our blue remembered hills…
Huge pats and nods to Maynard and his wife and to the Merlin Unwin posse for such a great night …Thanks to all those involved in making the event such a success.

- Shame that the author himself dare not speaketh, Tis sometimes the way…
Bring home the wine
Bring home the words
Bring home the bacon!
Maynard we salute you ..!!!
