Alex Langlands Author Event

Sunday 15th March 2009 at the Methodist Church, Church Stretton

Following the enormous success of Victorian Farm on BBC2 (viewing figures peaked at 3.8 million), we were delighted when presenter Alex Langlands agreed to return to South Shropshire to do a talk about the filming of the programme.
The tickets sold out within three weeks and the lucky 110 people who managed to get one were not disappointed.

Alex showed slides of the year he spent at Acton Scott and talked light-heartedly and affectionately about the filming, including some of the ‘behind the scenes’ events. His willingness to have a go at (almost) everything led to many enjoyable and amusing experiences, and both he and his fellow presenters fell in love with the farm and the area. They grew fond of the animals and were sad to have to say goodbye to them (Alex still has a few of the chickens!), particularly ‘Clumper’ the Shire horse. He explained how the Acton family had been generous with their advice and assistance, particularly in the loan of tools and books from the Victorian era.

After holding the audience enthralled for over an hour, Alex answered questions with refreshing honesty.
He ended by stating that the BBC had recently told him they wished they’d commissioned twelve episodes rather than six – his entire audience were in agreement!

Before leaving Alex spent time signing books and DVDs, having photos taken, and chatting to people. He has promised to return so that many of those who missed out on tickets will have chance to see him (See under “Forthcoming Events” for details)
