Stevie Davies at the Longmynd Hotel

Around 25 people gathered at The Longmynd Hotel on the evening of 10th May to hear Stevie Davies read from her fascinating new book, Into Suez, and talk about what inspired her to write it. As part of the book is set in the Church Stretton area it was particularly interesting to hear about her links here: Stevie went to school in Shrewsbury and made many fondly remembered visits to Church Stretton. Indeed, we all enjoyed the beautiful views across the Stretton Valley from the hotel’s panoramic windows as Stevie read extracts of the story: an idyllic setting that added to the ambience of the evening.

She also spoke about the years she spent in Egypt, and the research she carried out whilst writing the book. It is always interesting to get an insight into how authors work, and Stevie was no exception. She answered questions from the audience, then chatted and signed copies of the book for quite some time.
