Many thanks to everyone who joined us here on 14th September to help celebrate the ‘Books Are My Bag’ launch, a campaign to raise awareness of High Street bookshops. The bookshelves were given a fresh coat of orange paint to complement the campaign colour, and staff dressed in matching BAMB T-shirts. There was a great atmosphere in the shop all day, with cakes, soft drinks, give-aways and special offers. A number of popular authors joined us: Phil Rickman, Simon Whaley, Margaret Wilson, Mark O’Hanlon from The Malcolm Saville Society, Barrie Raynor, Hilary Jane Jones, Tracey Swain (photographer).
The first 75 customers on the day received a free ‘Books Are My Bag’ canvas bag, as well as tea, bucks fizz, home made cakes, and other goodies. We also launched TWO competitions on the day to win a ‘Books Are My Bag’ canvas bag full of a selection of books:
1. Guess the weight of the bag of books;
2. Literary Quiz.
The prize for the Quiz was won by Clare Travers and presented by Phil Rickman at his Magus of Hay book signing on 8th November (see separate report for pictures). John Challis presented the prize for guessing the weight of the bag of books to Simon Cooper at his Reggie: A Stag at Bay book signing on 2nd November (see separate report for pictures).
